What is a life insurance policy check?

By Venkatesh TK, Founder, AdviceSahi. 20+ years in banking, wealth management and insurance distribution. Updated 16 October 2026.

In short

A life insurance policy check reviews the life insurance policies you already hold and shows what you pay, what you are covered for and what each policy is worth today. It helps you see gaps and overlaps before you decide to keep, change or add cover.

What does a policy check include?

  • Premium, cover, term and benefits of each policy.
  • The value of each policy today.
  • Your total life cover compared with what your situation suggests.
  • A simple score showing how adequately you are covered.

Why check a policy you already own?

Policies bought years ago can be forgotten, duplicated or no longer suit your family. A check makes the numbers visible so decisions are based on facts and not memory.

How does AdviceSahi do it?

Create a free account with your phone number. Add policies by uploading a PDF, reading insurer emails from Gmail or using DigiLocker. AdviceSahi reads each policy and builds your report. Gmail access is read only and limited to emails from insurers.

Is my data shared?

No. Only you can see your policies. An advisor sees your report only if you pick that advisor and consent to share it, separately from everything else.

Is a policy check financial advice?

No. A report is an informational analysis. AdviceSahi is a technology platform and not an insurer or intermediary. If you want advice, you can choose a licensed IRDAI advisor.
